Made from mature shiraz vines grown on elevated sites at Kyeema, and Mount Nanima near Murrumbateman.
The 2012-2013 season presented ideal conditions for vine health in the Canberra District. Well-spaced rain events and generally mild to warm conditions eclipsed the challenging circumstances of the previous season, and very modest yields in 2013 produced shiraz grapes with fantastic flesh and backbone.
The 2013 Reserve is beautifully ripe, and combines the intensity and vibrancy of the vintage with the spice, perfume and elegant structure that these vineyards consistently give.
Showing plenty of youthful charm now, this wine will be at its best at between five to twenty years of age.

‘This has a whole lot of wow factor with very exuberant, complex and fragrant perfume and spices on the nose. Plenty of bright ripe raspberry and blackberry fruits, strawberries too, all neatly captured. The palate has a swathe of fine tannin, really crunchy and energetic, concentrated yet fine. Dark chocolate, raspberry cream and swirling spice play out through the finish. Brilliant wine and drinking well already with a couple of decades of aging potential ahead too. ‘If Alex McKay puts the word “reserve” on his shiraz it’s pretty much guaranteed to be good. There aren’t too many producers you can say that of. This is an elegant wine. It cuts a fine figure. Pepper, roasted nuts, black cherry and anise. Swings its way through the mouth, integrated but characterful. Lively. Perfumed.
